Dan has spent years researching sailboats he feels would be a good choice for us to live aboard. We have visited these brands of boats and gone to look at them as far north as Rhode Island, as far south as Florida, and all the way to the West Coast. Dan gets fixated on a brand of boat and is sure that is the make of boat we have to buy. Then, after looking at a few, he hems and haws and changes his mind.
The first boat he fell in love with, was the Hallberg-Rassy. He was sure we could find one in our price range and that it would fulfill both our needs. Next he moved onto the Moody, then to the Hylas, possibly a Tayana, and just tonight, he told me his new favorite boat is the Norseman 447. So when I asked him why the new change of heart, he informed that he put together a spread sheet with all the boats we have looked at, and compared all their data. He rated such categories as length, draft, displacement, sail area, capsize potential, stability ect. The Kaufman 47 ranked number one, and second to that, was the Norseman 477. The best boat for the money, was the Hylas 44.
So, the search will continue and I will be sure to keep everyone updated on the boat shopping progress! Now that you know what kind of boat we are looking for, be sure to send us a message if you think you have the boat for us!
